Bio

Jose Saavedra Diaz is a double bass player with a vision focused on inspiring, teaching, and supporting the emerging global double bass artistry through pedagogy, performance, and social outreach of the double bass. Currently, Mr. Saavedra holds positions as section bass of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra, and Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, Executive Director at the Bradetich Foundation, and Adjunct Faculty of Double Bass at the Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Saavedra graduated with a Master’s in Music at the University of North Texas, under the instruction of Prof. Jeff Bradetich, and is currently a doctoral candidate and teaching assistant of Chamber Music Studies at this same institution.


Mr. Saavedra has performed as a freelance musician in the Panhandle, East, West, and North Texas areas including:
Texarkana Symphony Orchestra, Longview Symphony Orchestra, Marshall Symphony Orchestra, Richardson Symphony Orchestra, McKinney Philharmonic, University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra, and other states such as the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.


Mr. Saavedra gives attribution to his love for orchestral playing to his mentors in the three consecutive summers in New York at the Music School Festival Orchestra at Chautauqua Institution, Owen Lee, Principal Bass of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and former Section Bass of the Philadelphia Orchestra and National Symphony, Curtis Burris.


As a pedagogue, Mr. Saavedra has expanded the horizons of his private in-person and online students all over the USA, and Latin America by using a goal-focused approach to double bass learning. As Director of the Bass
Conservatory of Dallas and founder of the International Virtual Bass Conservatory, Mr. Saavedra is leading the legacy of the innovative pedagogy system by Jeff Bradetich, Regents Professor of Double Bass at the University of North Texas, developed by Dr. Gudrun Raschen, founder of the Bass and Cello Conservatory of Dallas and Senior Lecturer of Double Bass at the University of North Texas. In his free time, Mr. Saavedra enjoys playing electric bass his favorite non-classical genres such as death and heavy metal, reggae, and ska; and also enjoys hiking, photography, yoga, and
video editing
