A Bit About the Project
This spring, MSU faculty and students will join musicians from the Wichita Falls Youth Symphony Orchestra to perform Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring in its original version for 13 instruments. Copland wrote this version in 1944 for Martha Graham’s ballet, and the work won the Pulitzer Prize for Music the next year. It remains one of the defining works of American music. In this small ensemble, every player carries their own part, with no section to hide in, so the youth symphony students will rehearse and perform as equal partners alongside university faculty. Projects like this connect our community’s musicians across generations and show young players what is possible when they keep studying and performing music. They also show the strength of the partnership between Midwestern State University and the WFYSO. Thank you for being part of it!
